I’m a meteorologist in Denver, Colorado.

Bio

Meteorologist Chris Tomer forecasts weather for KDVR FOX-31 and KWGN Channel 2 in Denver. You can watch Tomer Monday-Friday on Channel 2’s “Great Day Colorado” Lifestyle show 9-10am. Prior, Chris was on Channel 2’s Daybreak morning show for over 12 years.

Tomer earned a B.S. in Meteorology from Valparaiso University graduating with Honors – where he also played basketball. Tomer minored in mathematics and broadcasting.

Tomer is a fully certified meteorologist having earned the CBM and NWA Seal’s of Approval. Tomer also serves on the NWA panel of Television Seal evaluators. Chris has specialized knowledge of Mountain Meteorology.

Hobbies

In his free time, Tomer climbs mountains, runs trails, mountain bikes, and snow skis.  Tomer climbs all over North and South America. Chris completed climbing all 58 of Colorado’s 14ers in 2009. Many of his adventures are showcased on KDVR/KWGN-TV under the name of “Tomer’s Trails”. Chris won an Emmy Award for his 2015 Tomer’s Trails stories.

Forensic Weather

Tomer assists lawyers and insurance companies with forensic meteorology and expert testimony.  Examples include cases involving hail damage, historical weather on specific dates and times, and certification of weather in cases of liability.

Tomer also gives his opinion based on the data. 

Sleeping on the Summits

Tomer is a bestselling author. He co-authored Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys with Jon Kedrowski.  It was a Colorado Bestseller during the summer of 2012, and went on to win two important book awards in 2013 including the Colorado Book Award and IPPY Award.

Experience

Tomer is also a private consulting meteorologist specializing in mountain weather forecasting. His professional consulting work spans 20 years and includes working with over 500 clients climbing and skiing peaks around the world with a high success rate. His services are available for hire.

Tomer works for climbers and skiers attempting speed records, FKTs, people climbing their first big peak, and seasoned professionals climbing to new heights. Some of the jobs include all the 8000m peaks, Snow Leopard Peaks, Denali, Cassin Ridge, Aconcagua, Point 11,300 Alaska, Moose’s Tooth, Mount Hunter, Mount Alberta, and Devil’s Thumb.  

Tomer provided weather forecasts to Mingma G and Team during their first-ever Winter summit of K2 in 2020.
